What Are Chakras & How Can They Help Me Feel Less Stressed?
12th Feb 2025
We’ve recently introduced the Chakra Blessings Oracle Set, a beautiful set of 7 exquisite hand cast fine pewter coins with intricate, meaningful designs. So this is the ideal opportunity to explain what Chakras are and the role they can play in helping you have a healthier, happier life.
What are Chakras?
To understand Chakras, we must begin by understanding that they exist as part of ancient, deep traditions, such as Buddhism and Hinduism, that use meditation as a way to increase our understanding of the universe and ourselves. You may be very familiar with Chakras, or this may be new to you, a wonderful discovery on a journey of self-discovery.
Within these traditions, it’s believed that everything is made out of energy, ourselves included. The Chakras are specific areas of energy within the human body that are used as focal points in meditation. For more than two centuries, Western practitioners have added to the original Chakra tradition, with the addition of rainbow colors, correspondences with gemstones, and other magical elements.
The Chakras are envisioned as spinning wheels of energy in a vertical column, beginning at the base of the spine and ascending to the top of the head. When meditating upon the Chakras, it’s common to begin at the bottom and work your way upwards, going one by one. This represents a journey of spiritual ascent, a progression of greater understanding and peace.
Likewise, we will go from bottom to top when explaining the meanings of the seven Chakras.
The Root Chakra
Also known as Muladhara, the Root Chakra is about stability and grounding - understanding that we are connected to the universe in the same way the roots connect the green plant to the earth. The Root Chakra reminds us that strength and stability are at hand, well within our reach as needed.
The Sacral Chakra
Also known as Svadhisthana, the Sacral Chakra is about abundant enthusiastic creativity. The explosive nature of joy strengthens and nourishes us. The Sacral Chakra reminds us that we are creating reality just as much as we are experiencing it - a strong prompt to let yourself be brilliant.
The Solar Plexus Chakra
Also known as Manipura, the Solar Plexus Chakra is the inner fire and determination that powers one through the day. The strong and confident energy represented by the Solar Plexus Chakra empowers you to create the change you want to see in the world. More than a flash of inspiration, the Solar Plexus Chakra represents the steady strength required to get the job done.
The Heart Chakra
Also known as Anahata, the Heart Chakra is all about love, interconnection and harmony. One of the most important lessons of the Heart Chakra is that your commitment to love and compassion must also include yourself. The Heart Chakra reminds us to be open to harmonious connection, being both receptive and willing to offer opportunity to understand.
The Throat Chakra
Also known as Vishuddha, the Throat Chakra is about self-expression - particularly when it involves telling important truths. The Throat Chakra reminds us of the power of our voice - not only what we say, but where we say it and how. Sincerity brings infinite blessings.
The Third Eye Chakra
Also known as Ajna, the Third Eye Chakra is perhaps the most well known of all the Chakras. Opening the Third Eye, through meditation, helps one connect with their intuition. Learning to trust your inner wisdom provides confidence in all avenues of life. Additionally, for those seeking vision and inspiration, the Third Eye points the way.
The Crown Chakra
Also known as Sahasrara, the Crown Chakra completes the journey with spiritual wisdom and peace. Being able to feel the connection between all beings lets us know all is well. The Crown Chakra reminds us that we can be confident in the timeless cycle of life.
