New Protection Pendant: Notes From the Artist

To create this design, I wanted to use a quaternary knot, which means one with four-way symmetry. Fourfold symmetry and fourfold knots always feel very grounding and protective to me, like shields.

This 4-way knot that you see here in this design, with the ring around it, is a sigil I use myself for protection. If you like to use sigils yourself, this is an especially good one to experiment with. It's just fun to draw; the physical act of drawing it just feels really good. You make a nice strong circle, and then you loop the knot around the circle. It takes some practice to get it to come out relatively even around the circle, but when you do, ... I don't know, it's just super fun to draw!

So this design includes those 4-way celtic knots that look like shields, AND they are also placed within the design in a repeating 4-way pattern, forming a pendant that itself looks like shield.

These protective symbols can also be viewed as surrounding you in all four directions (North, South, East, West).

I chose two different stones for this piece. First, Carnelian. I am a big sucker for Carnelian; I just love its strong bold oranges. It adds a little fire and strength to the protection blessing.

The other stone I chose is Moonstone. Moonstone... well, what can one say, it's just gorgeous. In this batch, we've got some stones with shiny bright white shimmer, and some with a hint of that amazing shimmer-blue, and very occasionally some hints of other rainbow colors.
